Who we are

Ms.Barbara Goldmann, Ph.D. and editor of the  Annales magazine, a publication of  the N.Y. Society of  Sciences, recedntly visited Tarazona in order to get in touch with the old jewish quarter of this town. Upon this visit, a group of people from Tarazona, among them not only historians or architects, but also culturaly interested neighbours, decided to  to create the “Association of friends of the jewish culture of Tarazona”, which we later decided to rename, in a quite shorter way, “Moshe of Tarazona”.

We have given our association some very concrete goals:

-to put into public knowledge the heritage of the jewish community of Tarazona and its rural surroundigs, to establish a link of friendship and cultural co-operation with jewish entities all over the world, as well as with the now existing entities of spanish-jewish friendship, or those who might exist, in the future, on spanish territory.

To the fulfillment of these goals, the association will implement the following activities:

-Recopilation of every kind of information and bibliography on the history of Tarazona´s and its surroundig´s jewry;

-Organisation of  meetings, conferences, courses, seminaries, concerts of sephardic music, recuperation of sephardic cooking recipes and, in general, any other activity in
favor of promoting the interest, among studiosus and sympathizers with the historic legacy of Tarazona´s  jewry in particular, and, in general  the legacy of Aragon´s jewish community as a whole.
From the above stated activities we expect many scientific studies as a result, which the association will publish in view of her financial possibilities.
We also want to promote the realisation of archaeological excavations in  our old jewish quarter, and to put every effort into the conservation and/or restauration of the old edifices of this quarter in their primitive sephardic originality.

We also want to buy a very singular and historic building, of sephardic authenticity without any doubt, which stands in the nowadays called  Arcedianos Street of our jewish quarter, and to create in this house a Memorial and Museum of the  sephardic culture and history of Tarazona and ( the Kingdom of ) Aragón, with its library and space to organize the paralell cultural activities, as well as realize the necessary efforts in order to include the city of Tarazona in the so called Ruta de las Juderías (“historic trail of Juderías (jewish Quarters )and jewish heritage In Spain”)

Last, but not least, we want to promote Tarazona as a tourist goal, not only for jews, but also for friends of sympathizers of the jewish and sephardic culture all over the world, as well as promoting travels abroad of today´s inhabitants of Tarazona, so that they can get to know the jewish world and culture of our time, to which we want to create a travel agency specialized in the the Juderías ( jewish
quarters ) of  Aragón

We need everyone´s help and  will greatly appreciate your contribution to our project of saving the jewish heritage of Tarazona and Aragón.
