Tornator or the Return

It is not by chance that the cultural days, yearly organized by the Friends of the Jewish Culture of Tarazona Association "Moshe de Portella" are to be held under the motto "The return of Sepharad to Tarazona". We expect from this return the renaissance of a dialogue between different cultures in this millennium. This is the proposal, the project of this association.

Tarazona wants to re-open its heart and its doors to its Jewish heritage; it wants to recognise, accept and love this important component of its history, until now forgotten in a such unjust way. This encounter with its past will also bring new spirit to fuel the future of the town. We want to recover and show our Sephardic heritage, the names and surnames of our former inhabitants and neighbours, their way of life and their feelings, in order to make them present again among us and to achieve an acceptance of our history, the cultural renovation of our town, as well as a new dialogue between different cultures. Through our activities we want to renew human relations, symbolized by the traveller who follows the path of a cultural tourism, creating new values that enrich and unite the different peoples of the world and their own cultures.

So, dear traveller, we invite you to have a walk, to wander through the streets of Tarazona´s Jewish Aljama. To discover its history, its secrets.

If our Association gets the funding it needs, we hope to make reality in short our dearest project: the "Moshe de Portella" Multimedia Jewish Heritage Centre. There, in a virtual, but also very real way, through images, sounds and even odours and smells, our history will be shown the way it really took place.

We want to trespass the limits of our own town and contact with other sister-towns in the State of Aragón, and all together, initiate the recovery of our region´s so outstanding Sephardic heritage, as well as setting an example of cultural dialogue and collaboration.
